Attachment Theory & Relationships

Updated: May 13

If you would like to understand more about your attachment style and how it came about for you then you might like to read the attached chapters from the Attachment Theory Workbook. Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, my therapy of choice, has it's roots in attachment theory, which was originally the ideas of John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth, who did much research around a child's attachment to their primary caregiver. We now know that attachment styles are very relevant to adult intimate relationships and have a significant impact on how we respond to our partners when we feel threatened or unsafe.

Attached are two chapters from The Attachment Theory Workbook, which will help you to establish and understand your individual attachment style and how it impacts your close relationships.
